1st PPP Solar Project by NPAK in GB 12

The Government of Gilgit Baltistan wishes to develop and promote the energy sector by supporting and encouraging private sector investors and developers to participate in new electric power projects in the Gilgit-Baltistan Region of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan;

To better meet the energy needs of the residents of the Gilgit-Baltistan Province, and the Central Hunza area of the Hunza District in particular, and to foster economic development in that region, and to provide long-term, reliable and affordable energy, the Government granted a concession for generation, transmission and distribution of electricity to the NPAK Energy Limited (The Company of Industrial Promotion Services) within the Concession Area, including commencing with the construction of solar and hydropower plants in the pilot phase, upon successful completion of which, further renewable energy generation capacity, can be installed to meet the electricity demand in Hunza and other districts of Gilgit Baltistan.

In this regard, the first Public Private Partnership Project of a 1MW solar plant at the commission stage will start operation in November 2023. In phase II, a 2MW Solar plant will be installed and commissioned in 2024.
